The filling amount (darning density) is essentially important for the noise insulation and the life span of the insulating material. Too "softy" stuffed: The exhaust sounds at first quiet, after a short time the insulating material slides open, there forms an empty space, the damper becomes again loudly, the insulating material wears out excessively fast. Too "hard" stuffed: long life span of the insulating material, but no optimum noise insulation. The general life span of the material is from machine to machine and driver to driver different. Tip: Weigh the exhaust after stuffing it and re-weigh afterwards every couple hours. Refill due to weight loss! Empty burnt out dampers lead to performance loss, unnecessary noise development and often to secondary damages! Silencing material fulfills 3 jobs: silencing, heat isolating, Prevention of oscillation breaks of the sieve pipe. Important: Please note, when washing your machine make sure that the muffler is well closed to prevent a penetration of humidity. Humid or wet insulating material raises the volume of your machine dramatically! The noise insulation is likewise impaired by saturation of the insulating material with unburnt oil or deposition of oil coal on the insulating material. These signs point to a too fat mixture.
