In able to remove the tight-fitting or stuck spring/shock absorber units from steering knuckle clamping bores, it is necessary to widen the clamping bore with the spreader tool. The removal and installation of a shock absorber unit can then be performed without any problems. Damage to the steering knuckle housing (cast or aluminum) is prevented. Due to the variable adjustable spreader head it is particularly suitable for vehicles where the clamping slot is offset outside the center e.g. VW-Audi, Ford etc. The exchangeable wedge of the spreader head is particularly suitable due to its dimensions and its special shape for aluminum stub axles. The wedge is equipped with a stop, not to widen the stub axle too much. The floating bearing bolts prevent the tool from tilting when the steering knuckle is spread.
